Surfers Paradise has long been a popular spot for families with many cafes and eateries offering well priced family meals. Cavill Avenue and the surrounding streets you'll find a range of indoor and outdoor cafes and restaurants, from all form of Asian cuisine and Italian restaurants, to informal family eateries. Surfers Paradise also has several traditional Japanese restaurants popular with families looking for the perfect place for a family dinner.

Broadbeach is a family favourite, famous for its pavement cafes and friendly service. Gourmet pizzas are a healthy favourite with the kids, or why not try one of the many great restaurants situated along the Gold Coast Highway at Broadbeach.

Main Beach, Tedder Avenue is a vibrant dining area with a stylish vibe. Café style with chic outdoor dining. This is a great spot to enjoy a romantic dinner while the kids are being looked after by one of the area's qualified babysitters (for recommendations, just ask your hotel). There are also a handful of wine bars where you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink. You'll find Thai, Japanese and Italian restaurants to tempt you for dinner, as well as plenty of cafes serving coffee and delicious desserts until late. Of course, there are also some great spots to take the kids for a casual family meal.

Gold Coast Beaches

Surfers Paradise beach is the most popular beach on the Gold Coast - a great spot for families with its patrolled swimming beaches. Free beach volleyball offers fun for all ages.  Nearby restaurants, cafes and shops provide all the facilities needed to ensure a fun day.

There is one golden rule everyone should follow when swimming on Gold Coast beaches (in the water that is): swim between the flags. Every morning the lifesavers check out the conditions and put up a couple of flags in the safest spot for people to swim (which is, coincidentally, usually right in front of the clubhouse). If you stay in between the flags you'll be in the safest spot on that particular section of the beach and you'll be under the watchful eye of a Gold Coast lifesaver - Gold Coast lifesavers are the best in the world.   The only exception to swimming between the flags is if you have a surfboard - surfboards are not allowed between the flags as they could be dangerous to swimmers.

The Centro Surfers Paradise shopping centre on the main shopping mall/street, Cavill Avenue, has something to keep everyone entertained. Every Friday night craft markets are set up along the front esplanade of the Surfers Paradise

Gold Coast Hinterland

The Gold Coast hinterland area offers large areas of National Park, allowing visitors to experience the natural beauty of the area first hand on one of the park’s many walking tracks. The tracks vary in difficulty and length - some tracks are only one kilometre, perfect for families with younger children experiencing the wonder of the rainforest for the first time.   Getting to the Gold Coast Hinterland and national parks is easy with a range of tours available.  If you and your family would like a more personal experience why not hire a car ad get a Gold Coast map and go exploring!

The Hinterland is home to several museums and art galleries, as well as fantastic restaurants and tearooms with gold coast skyline views. Stroll through the Gold Coast Hinterland for the day or stay a while in one of the area’s many bed and breakfasts.
